Puerto Vallarta
Another gorgeous day and our first time to Puerto Vallarta, a stunning resort beach town with diverse architecture and street art. A difference here from Cabo San Lucas is that the residents in Puerto Vallarta live in and near the resorts, so it is not as pristine as the tourist/resort area of Cabo.We visited the Malecon, a mile-long boardwalk along beautiful Banderas Bay. The sea horse statue has become the symbol of Puerto Vallarta. The main plaza in the historic area is dotted with color, cobblestone streets, and red-tile roofs.
The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, with its crown top and neoclassical/ baroque styles, is beautiful.
A ride high up into the mountains took us past luxury resorts and homes, providing spectacular ocean, jungle and mountain views.
A funny part of the afternoon included an optional Viking sponsored trip to Walmart!! Yes, that's right, Walmart, aka Puerto Walmarto. Since many guests were prepared for beaches, not southern S America/near Antarctica weather, this was a chance to buy sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. Also any forgotten toiletry items, and pool noodles!
We enjoyed watching the comings and goings from our cabin's balcony.
Also, a passenger fell in the ship's restaurant and broke his arm. He was taken to hospital, but before his wife departed with their luggage, a police drug dog and border patrol went through her suitcases after the dog showed some interest.
An interesting day in Puerto Vallarta
Donna,
ReplyDeleteHere is a test comment. Seems to work. Of course, I have a Google account, but if it works, it works.
The architecture is beautiful! Of course not Walmarts 😊
ReplyDeleteI’ve been commenting but I don’t think they’re coming through. I too have a Google account.
