Nazareth, Jordan River, Sea (Lake) of Gallilee -- Israel Holy Land - April 12
Jordan River, Sea of Gallilee, and Nazareth
After our Dead Sea Float, we passed the Sea of Gallilee (actually a beautiful lake), and the cities of Magdala, Cana, and Jericho.
We made a stop at the Jordan River at Yardenit, where St. John baptized Jesus. The site is located south of the river's outlet from the Sea of Galilee, and is frequented by Christian pilgrims wanting to be baptized. Its a lovely, serene setting and I put my feet, but not my head, in the River.
Nazareth ---
Basilica of Annunciation in Nazareth is a Catholic church in northern Israel known to be the site of the house of the Virgin Mary, and where the angel Gabriel appeared to her and announced that she would conceive and bear the Son of God, Jesus – known as the Annunciation.
The current Catholic Church is a two-storey building finished in 1969 over the site of earlier churches from the Byzantine, Crusader, and Ottoman-period churches.
Church of St. Joseph. ---
St. Joseph's Church is a Roman Catholic church in the Old City of Nazareth, modern-day Northern Israel. It was built in 1914 over the remains of much older churches and tradition asserts that the Church is built over the carpentry workshop of the husband of the Virgin Mary. It is located close to the Church of the Annunciation.
