Stavenger, Norway - May 14
A beautiful morning (after 3 days of off and on Norwegian rain) for a tour boat excursion from Stavanger dock, which took us cruising in the Stavanger Archipelago of Norway.
We rode into Lysefjord to view the famous Pulpit Rock, also many waterfalls, vacation cabin/homes, and wonderful scenery along the shores. Pulpit Rock rises 1,982 feet and is topped by a nearly flat 82-foot by 82 foot surface. It juts out from the rock face in a formation that looks like a church pulpit.
We later stopped for a traditional Norwegian waffle with cream and sweet jam and coffee.
Back in Old Town Stavenger, we enjoyed a walk through town, lined with the continent's highest concentration of wooden buildings from the 17th century. The almost 250 buildings were nearly destroyed by developers in the 1950s, until a conservancy was formed to protect them.
Stavenger has most recently had a boom from off-shore drilling profits.

Stavenger, another lovely Norway town.
