Puerto Montt, Chile - Feb. 4, 2022

Puerto Montt, Chile w Puerto Varas, Petrohue Falls- Feb. 4

Due to a late morning docking in Puerto Montt, we missed our opportunity for a scenic boat ride on Emerald lake, known for its vivid blue/ green color. So our day began instead with a beautiful drive along the shores of Lago Llanquihue, the largest lake in the Chilean Lake District.

Hundreds of lakes and numerous volcanoes dominate the area. Along the way we passed Osorno Volcano, partly hidden in clouds.
Petrohue Falls in V. Perez Rosales Natl Forest were wonderful, especially with our timing, as Osorno Volcano appeared from behind the clouds.

After enjoying the blue/green rapids of the falls area, we had lunch and visited the German settled town of Puerto Varas, which sits on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. Puerto Varas was lined with roses growing in all colors. The lake front was decorated with colorful metal artwork, all derived from scrap metals.

It was a beautiful warm day, and we were dressed for colder weather, thinking that the boat cruise would be cold.

Even though we had a wonderful day, it was made even better when, upon our return to the ship, our Gen. Mgr. Johann, announced that since it was Viking's fault that we missed the Emerald Lake boat cruise, Viking would refund the money spent for that excursion. Very classy.
