Kotor, Montenegro - March 14

KOTOR, MONTENEGRO - and Cetinje -- March 14

A 17-mile scenic inlet links the Adriatic Sea to Kotor, Montenegro. We arrived in Kotor Bay before sunrise, well worth an early wake-up to see this gorgeous narrow fjord, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs.
Montenegro is one of Europe’s newest nations. After arrival, we started off on a jawdropping ascent from Kotor to the slopes of Lovcen Mountain (with 25 hairpin switchbacks) through Lovcen Natl Park to the village of Negusi. Here, we were treated to local cheese, prosciutt, and wine.
We continued on to Montenegro's former capital, Cetinje. There, we visited the museum home of King Nikola, the 1st and only king of Montenegro. This entire excursion was eye candy and a great time to see the country, Kotor Bay, and the Adriatic sea from a birds-eye view.

Back in Kotor, we walked along the narrow cobblestone maze of streets in this charming medieval city surrounded by cliffs, the bay,  and Venetian walls built in 1420 (and winding for 3 miles), and church high on cliffside. Our friends made an arduous climb to the top of the mountain. Dave and I ambled along at sea level, enjoying Kotor!!
