Split, CROATIA and the Zrka Waterfalls - March 15

Split, CROATIA and the Zrka Waterfalls - March 15

We began our day leaving the port in Split and driving through the rocky countryside of Croatia to Sibenik and the Krka National Park.
With its 17 travertine barriers (limestone settled out of water accumulating moss and algae to create gorgeous colors), the Krka River is a natural karst phenomenon with cascading waterfalls and crystalline waters. A wide boardwalk throughout the massive Skradinski Buk Waterfalls area made a pleasant walk through the park. These 17 falls are considered to be the most beautiful calcium-carbonate waterfalls in Europe.
A delicious local cuisine lunch in Skradin followed our walks among the waterfalls.

Back to Split in the afternoon. Split is a rare jewel of a port city. Diocletian chose this site to build his retirement palace in the year 305, much of it still standing to this day almost 2,000 years later. It's  hard for me to fathom.
It's wonderful how the city has mixed the ancient walls and buildings in with the new.  A perfect location to film scenes from Game of Thrones.
Another wonderful day with great scenery, blue sky, and lovely cities/towns.
