Venice, Italy - March 16/17

 Venice, Italy - March 16/17

Venice is always wonderful and magical, no matter the weather or bureaurcratic  situation. It's composed of 118 islands, 400 bridges, and 177 canals.
We love roaming through Venice on our own in the narrow calles (walkways), across the bridges, and stopping for special sights.

Unfortunately, we were docked almost an hour away, it was cloudy, cold, and Italy was not allowing independent travel for cruise ships, even though we are tested, temperature checked, and do a health survey each day, and have zero covid cases.  So we scrambled to book the longest Viking tours we could find, in order to enjoy the city for 2 days.
Venice is built atop millions of alder wood poles tied/fastened together, with a cement substance on top of those. We love the crumbling old palaces, the magnificent artwork, churches, and, of course, San Marco Square.  Luckily, we have been to Venice several times before to also enjoy it at nighttime, when it has a totally different charm. We were happy to have 2 days with no rain or aqua alta (high water) in Venice.
